How do I fix errors in Outlook rules?

Whether there is corruption in the SRS file or it is the incorrect location of the Outlook data file, both need to be fixed. If we have figured out the causes, then it’s not a difficult task to resolve this blunder. Let’s try out the below methods to fix the issue.

Correct Send And Receive Settings Or Reset/Rename It

For fixing Outlook rules not working automatically, you can rename or reset the SRS file. It can be done by following the below steps:

  1. Close the Outlook if opened and go to the Start > Computer on your system.
  2. Now, in the address bar paste the following path C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook and hit the enter button.
  3. This will leave you to the Outlook srs file and now rename it as you want.
  4. Open Outlook and the SRS file will get recreated automatically.

Check for the issue if it persists then you need to remove the corruption of the rules.

Remove All the Existing Outlook Rules

As renaming the SRS file has not resolved the issue, you need to delete the rules and recreate them. For doing this, you need to follow the below procedure:

  1. Close the Outlook application and navigate to Start.
  2. In the search bar, enter the following outlook.exe /cleanrules and hit enter.
  3. This will start Outlook with a clean rules command.
  4. Now, go to “Rules and Alerts” and you will see that all the previous rules are deleted. Now recreate the rules.
  5. If still after removing and recreating the rules, the problem persists, then there is something wrong or corruption in the Outlook Mailbox.

Fix Corruption of Outlook Mailbox

You can opt for the Inbox Repair Tool, provided by Microsoft. This will help you to remove minor corruption or header corruption issues. To use the Inbox Repair or scanpst.exe, you need to follow the below steps:

  1. Go to Start > Computer.
  2. In the address bar, enter C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16\
  3. Now, click on the scanpst.exe
  4. The tool will appear, click on the browse button and navigate to the following location C:\Users\admin\Documents\Outlook Files and select the OST file.
  5. Hit the Start button and the tool will start the integrity check of the OST file.
  6. Soon the scanning will complete and a new window will appear.
  7. Now, enable “Make backup of scanned file before repairing” and press the Repair button.
  8. Soon the recovery process will be completed and the OST file will get repaired.

This method will repair the corrupt OST file and help you to fix the error but the problem is, scanpst.exe can only repair OST files with minor issues and it will not repair badly damaged files. So, there are chances that the error will persist in that case I’ll ask you to go for the Outlook Repair Utility which can easily fix badly damaged or highly corrupted OST files. We hope it will resolve MS Outlook Rules Not Running Automatically issue and you will get the solution for how to fix errors in Outlook rules.
